ART AND KNOWLEDGE
8 – 10 June 2009, Kyiv
The notion of ‘artistic research’ is a broadly discussed topic in
current art discourse that generates certain tendencies and
institutional practices. However the ‘research’ here often implies
reductive notion of knowledge that subsumes art to administrative
measurability and limits its scope to production of usable
application. The series of seminars ‘Art and Knowledge’ launched by Visual Culture Research Center are aimed to work out an alternative
model of joining of artistic and academic fields and developing of a
non reductive concept of knowledge that recognizes art’s subversive
potential. The participants involved in the first seminar address a
series of issues surrounding contemporary art, archiving and study of
visual image that reflect on discrepancy between the concepts of
research and knowledge.
