CAMBRIDGE COLLEGES HOSPITALITY SCHEME

Oxford and Cambridge universities, in conjunction with the Open Society Institute, invite applications from scholars from selected countries in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, including Ukraine, who wish to work in the universities’ libraries or to contact academic specialists in their subjects.
· At Cambridge the programme offers one-month visits in one of the Cambridge colleges during the summer months (July-September).
· At Oxford the programme offers one-month visits in one of the Oxford colleges, mostly during the summer months.
Eligibility:
Scholars will normally be of post-doctoral or equivalent status and will be university teachers or members of research institutes.
Although the precise conditions of the scholarships vary between the two universities, all scholars receive free single accommodation and meals, plus small allowances for photocopying, books, and personal expenses. The cost of travel may also be met.
Applicants must have a good knowledge of spoken English. Those who will have spent two months or more of academically related time in the West within the period 1 April 2003 and the start of their visit are not eligible.
Priority will be given in Oxford to those completing work for an advanced degree or working on a specific project such as a book or a new course of lectures, and to those who have not previously had a chance to study outside of Central and Eastern Europe or countries of the former Soviet Union.
