Information Report

On November 23, 2004 the students, faculty and staff members of the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” announced their decision to join the all-Ukrainian movement in defense of the Constitutional right of the Ukrainian citizens to make a free choice and declared a political strike.

Our demands are the following:

- Reconsideration of the results of the Presidential elections in the electoral districts where the voting was conducted with violations of the Law of Ukraine “On Elections of the President of Ukraine”
- Resignation of Head of the Administration of the President of Ukraine Viktor Medvedchuk, Vice Premier Dmytro Tabachnyk, Minister of Education Vasyl Kremin, and Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mykola Bilokon
- Prosecution of those involved in falsifications of the elections
- Readmission of the students expelled from the universities and other educational institution of Ukrainian for political reasons

The NaUKMA community sent a letter to Vasyl Kremin, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, blaming him for his passive position during the election campaign period, when the school teachers, university lectures and other employees of the educational sphere were forcefully involved into the illegal power actions.

The University students and faculty members also put forward their demand on the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine extraordinary session to be held on November 23 and addressed Leonid Kravchuk, NaUKMA Honorary Doctor. They requested him as a current leader of one of the Ukrainian Parliament fractions and his fraction members to participate in the session. In the letter to Mr. Kravchuk the University students and teachers mentioned that they believed that in such a critical situation Mr. Kravchuk would choose the side of law and political position adequate to his role of the first President of Ukraine and NaUKMA Honorary Doctor.

The National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” urges the Ukrainian and world academia to join their efforts in defense of the democratic choice of Ukrainian people.

The NaUKMA students and faculty member are free in their choice to support the announced political strike. The NaUKMA administration will not allow any discrimination to be done on this basis. The NaUKMA administration is currently finishing preparation of the legal regulations of the strike, among which:
- a procedure of the personalized registration of those willing to support the strike;
- a scheme of corrections to the academic plans and vocational calendars to minimize negative effects of the strike on the educational process.

1615 - Kyiv-Mohyla brotherhood school, later turned into Collegium, was founded

2012 - NaUKMA is a classical university with six faculties (Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Economics, Computer Sciences, Natural Sciences).
