“Ukraine digital: Ukraine in its transcultural and transnational context” is a project of virtual mobility of the Justus Liebig University of Giessen (JLU) together with the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA). The project is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), funding provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), as part of the DAAD-programme “Ukraine digital: Ensuring Academic Success in Times of Crisis”. It is aimed at ensuring academic success in times of war, maintaining virtual courses, fostering internationalisation, digitalisation and integration into the European system of higher education as well as strengthening the longstanding partnership between the NaUKMA and the JLU.
“Co-teaching programme for European integration (Taste)” in form of five online tandem seminars (courses) will provide students and teachers of NaUKMA and JLU with a room for exploring Ukrainian language, history, culture, literature, and society, reflecting on the current state of war, and strengthening Ukrainian voices:
● “Ukrainian Language and Russia’s War against Ukraine” (Prof. Dr. Natalya Kobchenko and Prof. Dr. Monika Wingender);
● “Skovoroda and the Migration of Cultural Concepts” (Dr. Rostyslav Semkiv and Prof. Dr. Thomas Daiber);
● “Central Europe 1989-2021: Transformation, Persistence, Perdurance” (Prof. Dr. Ola Hnatiuk, Prof. Dr. Peter Haslinger, and Dr. Simon Donig);
● “Re-Thinking Ukrainian Donbas in Fiction, Memoirs, and Visual Arts” (Dr. Olha Poliukhovych and Dr. Oleksandr Chertenko);
● “European Norms, Identities and Democracy Support” (Dr. Anna Osypchuk and Prof. Dr. Andrea Gawrich (via a stand-in-colleague).
What is the online fellowship about?
Funding is provided for the participation in one of the five digital tandem seminars (courses) from October to December 2022, which is preceded in September by a preparatory phase of the selected seminar with reading tasks. The fellowship is 200 ˆ per month from September to December 2022. Each tandem seminar will be part of the Virtual International Programme (VIP) of JLU and includes tasks (presentations, written papers or others) to be fulfilled. Upon completion of all project activities, students will receive a certificate and transcript of records. In addition, JLU offers optional online German courses at different levels.
Who can apply for an online fellowship?
Fellowships for participation in one of the above mentioned five tandem online seminars (courses) are restricted to BA- and MA-Students from NaUKMA. Students of all NaUKMA programs are eligible to apply. To be eligible for fellowship NaUKMA students should ensure:
● registration of virtual mobility at the NaUKMA International Office (please contact Larysa Chovnyuk on larch@ukma.edu.ua); ● recognition of at least one seminar (course) (students should contact Heads of their Departments to confirm the possibility of recognition according to the NaUKMA regulations); ● completion of all seminar (course) activities.
How to apply for registration and an online fellowship?
1) Please send your transcript, confirmation of your student status at NaUKMA and a short CV (max. 2 pages) including information about your academic education and language skills (in particular, English) together with a cover letter (approx. 1 page). In your cover letter, you should provide the following information:
● a short self-introduction;
● which of the five digital seminars you prefer to choose (see the brief description of all tandem seminars at https://www.jlu-digitalcampus.de/.../interdisciplinary...);
● why you want to participate in this project;
● if you would like to take a German course and whether you have learnt German before (on beginner, intermediate, or advanced level). CV and cover letter should be in English.
Please send these documents by 3 October 2022 (extended deadline).
Please send your application package for the online fellowship and inquiries via email to Iryna Tarku: Iryna.Tarku@gcsc.uni-giessen.de.
Following an evaluation process by a selection committee from JLU and NaUKMA, all candidates will be notified about granting the online fellowship by mid-September 2022 at the latest. Please note that students could be admitted to one or more of the above-mentioned online tandem seminars (courses) as part of the JLU VIP program, but not granted the online fellowship (admission to the courses does not guarantee granting the fellowship).
