The Summer University was established in 1996 primarily as a vehicle for helping young faculty, researchers and professionals in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union by promoting academic cooperation and curriculum development in the social sciences and humanities.
In 2005 CEU Summer University offers fourteen courses.
• Cultural Learning, Imitation, and Articraft Understanding: A Comparative Perspective
• Bookish Traditions: Authority and the Book in Scripturalist Religions
• Conflict and the Law in Medieval Europe
• Ethnopolitics in Eurasia and the Middle East
• Globalization, Governance and International Relations Theory
• History and Nationalism in Central Asia
• Ethnicity and Nationalism
• Leadership and Local Democracy: Does Leadership Make a Difference?
(Please note that the application deadline for this course is April 8, 2005)
• Transnational Flows, Structures, Agents and the Idea of Development
• Mediation and Other Methods to Foster Democratic Dialogue
• Civil Society Organizations: Promoting Pro-Poor Policy and Social Inclusion
• Intergovernmental Fiscal Relations and Local Financial Management
• Strategic Approach to Urban Challenges
• Strategic Corruption Control and Organizational Integrity
Eligibility
Minimum requirement for application is a university degree. Undergraduates without a university degree will not be considered. The program encourages applications from advanced Ph.D. students, postdoctoral fellows, junior faculty, researchers and professionals.
Full SUN Scholarship
Includes tuition fee, accommodation, a full or partial travel grant, and insurance. The recipients of the scholarship have to cover their living expenses.
The scholarships do not include living expenses, participants have to cover these on their own.
